[CITY]- based travel agency marches on
Washington for industry survival
[Travel Agent's City, State] - [Travel Agent's Name] of [Travel Agency Name] teams up with other national travel agents fighting for their industry's survival. Travel Agents will unite on October 5, 2001 to march on Washington to draw attention to the challenges travel agents are facing and its impact on consumers.
"Travelers continue to come to travel agents for the expertise, independence and service we provide," says [Travel Agent's name] of [Travel Agency Name]. "I'm marching because I believe the elimination of travel agencies will result in a travel industry without choice and I don't believe that will benefit anyone but the airlines."
Travel agents will start their October 5th rally at 11:00am at the Capitol Building in Washington where they will be handing out copies of the proposed "Travel Agent Consumer Protection Act of 2001." They will then march from the Capitol Building to the Department of Justice Building and end at the Department of Transportation around 3:30.
Consumers should be concerned about losing their only source of purchasing airline tickets independent of the airlines. The elimination of travel agents will eliminate the consumers' power to choose within a competitive economy. Equally important to the consumer will be their loss of various levels of service and expertise to choose from.
"It is important for the federal government and the nation to understand that the entire travel agency industry is on the verge of collapse," said Lawton Roberts, march founder and owner of UNIGLOBE Country Place Travel of Atlanta. "The September 11th tragedy has only worsened an industry that has been weakened from over six years of predatory and punitive actions initiated by the airlines. It's time to blow the whistle on an airline industry that, although important to the overall economic health of America, needs to be forced to comply with the nation's antitrust and consumer protection laws, both as they relate to retail travel agents and to consumers."
